Double-breasted Women’s Waistcoat: A Detailed Look

What are the constructional features of this waistcoat? The model is sewn from linen fabric. Don’t be concerned by slight wrinkles and creases in the finished garment. These characteristics are indicators of the fabric’s natural quality.

The back length of the finished waistcoat (for sizes 36-42) measures: 78.5 cm – 79 cm – 79.5 cm – 80 cm. The model is slightly tapered at the side seams, without darts or princess seams. It features a notched collar. The front panels have welt pockets with flaps.

  • The pattern accommodates sizes EU 36-42 (US 10-16, RU 42-48).
  • Incorporates professional details such as welt pockets with flaps.

How to Download the Double-Breasted Waistcoat Pattern?

The waistcoat sketch is shown in Fig. 4. The pattern is developed for sizes 36-42. The ease allowance for the bust measurement for this model is approximately 9.5 cm.

Important! Before cutting, any pattern should be checked. The simplest way to do this is to pin the paper pattern pieces along the seams and try it on the body. This way, you can assess the accuracy of the fit of your future garment.

How to check if a pattern is printed correctly

The pattern sheet layout is shown in Fig. 6. To ensure printing correctly, pdf-version includes a test square measuring 100 x 100 mm (approximately 4″ x 4″).

Why is this necessary? Sometimes, printer settings can cause the image to compress. To prevent this, make sure your printer settings are set to “Actual Size” or “100% Scale.” It’s crucial to measure the test square after printing and double-check the assembled pattern to avoid any errors.

How to Cut and Sew a Women’s Waistcoat

Download and print the pattern, assemble the sheets, select your size, and cut out the pattern pieces along the outlines. What you’ll need for your waistcoat

  • Approximately 2 yards (1.85 m) of 57″ (145 cm) wide linen fabric
  • 1.25 yards (1.15 m) of white poplin fabric for lining
  • Medium-weight fusible interfacing for reinforcing facings and back neck facing
  • 4 buttons ø 28 mm
  • 4 buttons ø 12 mm
  • 2,0 m of white tape for decorating the side seams and the center back line, about 1.5 cm wide
  • white bias binding tape for finishing the edges of facings
  • Sewing Thread Madeira Aerofil № 120

Fabric recommendations:  linen, wool, crepe and any suiting fabrics.

Required Sewing Equipment:

  1. Straight stitch Sewing Machine – for sewing side seams, shoulder seams, and sleeve seams in both main and lining fabrics, as well as for constructing pockets.

Main fabric cutting instructions:

  • Back – 1 piece on fold
  • Front – 2 pieces
  • Facing – 2 pieces
  • Back neck facing – 1 piece on fold
  • Pocket flap – 4 pieces
  • Upper collar – 1 piece
  • Under collar – 1 piece
  • Back Armhole Facing  – 2 pieces
  • Front Armhole Facing  – 2 pieces
  • Pocket bag 2 (2 rectangles approximately 7.5″ (19 cm) long and 7.5″ (19 cm) wide each) – 2 pieces.

Cut all pieces with 5/8″ (1.5 cm) seam allowances and hem allowances (4 cm).

Lining fabric cutting instructions:

  • Front – 2 pieces (cut to exclude the front facings)
  • Pocket bag 2 (2 rectangles approximately 7.5″ (19 cm) long and 7.5″ (19 cm) wide each) – 2 pieces.

Cut all pieces with 5/8″ (1.5 cm) seam allowances.

How to Sew a Women’s Waistcoat Using the Pattern
