And as the fashion world is experiencing a renaissance of the 90s, the lingerie-style dress (or slip dress, as it’s also called) will keep you on top.
Our reference. Jean Paul Gaultier was one of the first fashion designers who dared to bring a linen-style dress to the podium. The maestro created a sleep-dress for Madonna. John Galliano and Dior dressed Princess Diana in the same outfit.
Thin straps, a deep neckline and delicate lace trim all emphasize the femininity of our model. You need this dress! The lingerie-style dress is very comfortable, light and versatile. We recommend choosing pastel-colored fabrics for daytime looks, and darker colors fabrics for evening looks.

The pattern is made without allowances for seams and hem (!) for 42 – 50 sizes. Dress length from the waist is about 66 cm. The model has an oblique cut without a fastener.

A test square with sides of 100 x 100 mm is placed on a pattern sheet for printing accuracy checking. Be sure to measure the test square after printing.

For sewing a dress you will need:
- 2.2 m dress satin fabric 145 cm wide
- two ready-made shoulder straps with length adjustment
- lace 6 cm wide and 1.5 m long
- threads Madeira Aerofil No. 120.
- Machine needle for fine fabrics MICROTEX 70
Fabric selection tips! Choose well-draped dress fabrics for this model. Soft tails, formed during movement due to the oblique cut, give the product an additional charm. Viscose, satin, silk and other similar materials are suitable for dresses.
Pattern pieces:
1. Back – 2 blocks
2. Front – 1 block on fold
Cut pieces as shown on pic. 2. Place the pattern pieces on the material and cut out with 1,5 cm seam allowances.
Use the supporting fusible interfacing for the wrong side of the front and iron (facing is marked by the grey color on the pattern).
To contents ▴How to sew The lingerie-style dress
Sew sides seams together, sew back seam by the 4-thread overlock stitches. Cut the allowances along the armholes and back to 0,5 cm.
Face the armholes and back neckline with bias tapes. Neaten the facing outer edge with overlocking, fold over to the wrong side and sew along the armholes.
Bend the facing to the front side, straighten the seams and topstitch, stepping back 0,5 cm from the edge along the armholes.
Finish the hem with an overlock stitch. Put the lace on the hem and pin.
Stitch the lace along the short sides, align the seam accordingly with the seam along the back. Iron the allowances. Sew lace around the edge of the hem.
Then stitch the lace along the top curly edge.
You can use Free Motion Quilting foot for this. Sew ready-made straps to the dress.
