The handles are cut from a commercially available ready-made belt measuring 2.5 cm in width, eliminating the need for handle construction. This smart solution significantly saves time by eliminating the need to construct handles from scratch. All you need is a faux-leather strap approximately 1.5 m long, from which the bag handles are cut.

An additional third handle made from a sturdy chain with clasps serves as both a functional and decorative element. It allows the bag to be worn comfortably over the shoulder, leaving your hands free — a detail you will quickly come to appreciate.

How to Download the Tote Bag Sewing Pattern

The sewing pattern is drafted at full scale and provided in two formats: a full-size layout and a tiled A4 version. Seam and hem allowances are already included in the pattern, so no additional allowances need to be added when cutting along the pattern outlines.

A test square is included on the pattern sheet to verify correct print scaling. Download the pattern to your computer in the format that works best for you and print it on your printer.

How to Sew a Tote Bag from Scratch
To make this bag, you will need:
- A piece of teddy faux fur measuring 40 cm × 71 cm
- A piece of viscose lining fabric measuring 40 cm × 63 cm
- A rectangle of viscose lining fabric for the inner pocket, measuring 20 cm × 14 cm
- Fusible interfacing (woven or non-woven) for reinforcing the main bag panel
- For stabilizing the bag base: a rectangle of plexiglass or heavy cardboard, measuring 31 cm × 7 cm
- A separating zipper, approximately 40 cm in length
- A ready-made appliqué in a coordinating color
For the short handles:
- A ready-made faux leather belt, approximately 150 cm long
- 2 sew-on rhinestones, approximately 7 mm in diameter
For the long strap:
- A metal chain measuring 95 cm
- 2 metal swivel clasps
- 2 metal rings.
Thread:
- For construction seams: Madeira Aerofil No. 120
- For topstitching and attaching the handles: Madeira Aerofil No. 35.
